Why Practice Mediation?

The practice of meditation is often misunderstood and people find it difficult to stick with its practice. In this class you will learn what practicing meditation means and how to integrate it and make it a lifestyle.

Ekaterina was given the spiritual name Durga upon the completion of her Yoga Teacher Training at the Sivananda Vedanta and Yoga Center. She loves to challenge, inform, educate, and inspire her students. She combines her studies in meditation, pranayama, and yoga philosophy with her study of asana to create a challenging and comprehensive asana practice. Ekaterina is a firm believer that proper breathing is the key to physical, emotional and spiritual health. She is a Thai Yoga Practitioner and incorporates the practice in her classes.

Yoga and the New Feminine Paradigm

In this lecture and open discussion for men and women we will discuss the shift from masculine to feminine in western yogic culture. Historically yoga has been a lineage of men and masculine energy. In the west, Yoga is now dominated by women. How have the practices and teachings adapted? What shifts are needed in order to move yoga towards the new feminine paradigm? What will these shifts bring to the yoga landscape? What resistance will we face along the way?

Katlin is a CIAYT certified Yoga Therapist and ERYT200 /RYT500 Yoga Teacher and she has been practicing yoga and mindfulness techniques for almost 20 years.
She specializes in Yoga for mental health and women’s wellness. Her goal is to help her client’s transition gracefully through all of their life’s changes and upheavals. She offers workshops, group classes and one-on-one yoga therapy.

“My yoga is founded in exploring the emotional and spiritual benefits of this ancient practice. My belief is that emotional wellbeing and inner peace can be
uncovered when we still the mind. Body movement and breath are the most valuable tools for connecting to this stillness. Through breath practices (pranayama),body movement (asana), mudras, mantra and meditations we can

release emotions, trauma, grief and tension leading to greater health and emotional wellbeing.”

Katlin is classically trained in Hatha and Vinyasa. Her group classes encourage students to gently build strength, flexibility and self-acceptance. Her teaching
style is deeply nourishing and inspires a sense of calm and wellbeing. No class is complete without a little fun and playfulness.

Energy flow of the masculine and feminine, separate and together. Experience tantric energy, how it feels and how to use it to expand who you are.

Thandi has been a practitioner for 20yrs, and a single working mother living in London ON. For the past 13 yrs she has worked as a rehabilitation counselor, supporting adults with Acquired brain injuries and in later years she was the wellness lead. 10 yrs ago Thandi began incorporating therapeutic yoga, tantra and health coaching into her practise. Part of this was to help her find work/life balance with mental illness. She believes we are all capable of healing ourselves. Our healing journey is a personal one that is guided through inner work. Living through this she has learned to work through challenges. The strain of not being able to be present for her son and maintaining a home while working full time manifested negatively inside and caused heart issues, physical reactions and mental health struggles. Tapping into her feminine energy, through inner knowing, body movement and love, she gave herself permission to grow and better understand herself and the impact she has on others. As a coach she connects from her own personal journey to help others identify barriers and support them on their own self discovery of inner knowing.

With the beauty of the fall colors and the silence and calming energies of winter, comes also the greatest opportunity to enhance your immunity, build your Ojas (the best juices from digested food) and reduce ama (undigested food that becomes toxins). I will share with you the fundamentals of Ayurveda towards wellness and balance as well as different tools and tips that you can easily start implementing in your daily life to improve immunity and wellbeing.

My studies of Yoga and Ayurveda, helped me to understand and recognize, that we are all unique and magnificent in our own Nature and that life is a constant and harmonious pulsation of transformation. Transformation and freedom are goals of both, Yoga and Ayurveda. These ancient teachings have always been a tool to help one awaken into the true essence of one’s life. To me, yoga is not a competition, nor one fixed approach but, the opportunity to live a mindful and conscious life, while creating balance with our environment, nature, humanity and our body, mind, and spirit.

Start your Yoga Festival day with chanting! Explore the history of Bhakti (the yoga of the heart), the benefits of chanting, the vibrational quality of mantras, and explore the Divine energy and qualities of different Gods and Goddesses.

Local Kirtan Artists, Rachel McGarry and Karyn Austin of Mahadevi, began their Bhakti journey a few years ago and enjoy making the practice of Kirtan (call and response group chanting) accessible to all through monthly Kirtans in the London and surrounding area, at Yoga Festivals and private events. Mahadevi means Great Goddess and reflects the pair’s deep reverence and love of the Divine Feminine which is reflected in the mantras and songs they are drawn to. Both members of Mahadevi have studied with Brenda McMorrow through the Deva Tree School of Yoga. Both members are also certified yoga teachers. Rachel is currently completing her first Bhakti album, Songs for Savasana!

If you are curious about the practice of chanting, come chant with us! All voices are welcome :)
